So, I decided I’d head over to the Indianapolis tennis tournament. Heard it was happening and thought, why not? Been a while since I watched some live tennis, you know?
First thing was getting tickets. Went online, poked around a bit. Found some decent seats for one of the afternoon sessions. Didn’t break the bank, which was nice. Just clicked a few buttons, printed them out, old school style. Didn’t trust my phone for that.
Getting There and Settling In
The day rolled around. Hopped in my car. Drove downtown. Traffic wasn’t too crazy, surprisingly. But parking, yeah, that was the usual adventure. Circled around for a bit, ended up in a lot a few blocks away. Paid the fee, whatever. At least I found a spot.
Walked over to the venue. Bit of a line to get in, but it moved okay. They did the bag check thing, scanned my ticket. Pretty standard stuff. Once inside, just had to figure out where my section was. The signs were alright, found it eventually.
My seat was decent. Could see the whole court pretty well. The place had a nice buzz already, people milling around, finding their spots. Sun was out, felt good.
Watching the Matches and Stuff
Sat down and watched the players warm up. Then the match started. Good energy on the court. Saw some really good rallies, you know, back and forth, hitting it hard. The crowd got into it during the big points, lots of clapping and cheering.
- Watched one full match, pretty competitive.
- Caught the start of the next one too.
- The umpire had one of those calm voices, even when the crowd got noisy.
Got hungry after a while. Wandered around during a changeover to find food. Ended up with a pretzel and a lemonade. Yeah, it cost more than it should, but that’s just how it is at these events. You just pay it. Found a spot in the shade to eat it.
Observations on the Ground
One thing I noticed was the volunteers. Seemed like a lot of them, helping people find seats, answering questions. Mostly younger folks, looked like maybe college students. They were friendly enough. Also saw a lot of families there, kids running around in the grassy areas away from the courts.
The weather held up great, mostly sunny. Maybe got a little too warm by mid-afternoon, but can’t complain too much. Better than rain, right?
Heading Home
Decided to leave after the second match finished up. Didn’t want to get stuck in the huge wave of people leaving later. Walked back out, joined the flow of people heading away from the venue. The walk back to the car wasn’t too bad.
Getting out of downtown took a little bit, some congestion near the venue, but once I hit the highway, it was smooth sailing. Got home feeling pretty good. A solid day out, watching some sports.
Overall, it was a fun experience. Enjoyed the live tennis, the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. If it’s back next year, I’d probably consider going again. Just gotta remember to find parking a bit closer next time, maybe.
