Okay, so I decided to get out on the court today. Felt like hitting some balls, you know? Grabbed my racquet, threw some older balls into the bag, filled up the water bottle. The usual routine before heading out.
Got to the court, and thankfully it wasn’t too busy. First thing, had to warm up. Can’t just jump straight into it anymore. Did some stretches, focusing on my shoulders and legs. Then a bit of light jogging, baseline to baseline, side to side. Just getting the blood flowing. After that, I spent maybe 10 minutes just hitting easy shots against the wall, trying to find some rhythm. Just tap-tap-tap.
Getting into the Groove
Alright, warm-up done. Decided to really work on my groundstrokes today. Started with forehands. Just trying to hit steady, deep balls crosscourt. Felt okay actually. I was really trying to focus on watching the ball all the way onto the strings. Sounds basic, but man, it makes a difference when I actually remember to do it.
- Tried to keep my feet moving. Sometimes I get lazy and just reach. Bad habit.
- Focused on a good follow-through. Trying to get that nice, smooth finish.
- Hit maybe 50 forehands like that. Some good, some flew out. Story of my life.
Then switched over to backhands. Ugh. My backhand always feels a bit awkward at the start. Hit a few clean ones, but also shanked a couple right into the bottom of the net. Definitely need more work on that side. Spent a good while just grooving the backhand, trying to find that sweet spot again. It got a little better towards the end, less shaky.
Serves and Wrapping Up
Moved on to serves after tiring out my arms with groundstrokes. Didn’t spend ages on it, maybe 20 serves total. Just wanted to get the motion going. My first serve percentage was… well, let’s just say it needs improvement. Had a few decent ones land in, but also a fair share of double faults waiting to happen. It’s always a work in progress, isn’t it?
Didn’t really do volleys or anything else. Was feeling pretty tired by then. The sun was out, and I was definitely sweating. Called it a day after the serves. Picked up all the balls – chasing them around is half the workout, I swear. Packed my bag, took a long swig of water. Felt good, though. Tired, but that satisfying kind of tired you get after putting in some effort. Another session done.
