Okay, so I wanted to keep better track of my kid’s hockey games, specifically the NESCAC standings. Here’s how I went about it, and hopefully, it helps someone else out there!
First, I scoured the internet. I mean, I really dug around. There are a ton of sports sites, but I needed something specific to NESCAC. It took a bit of hunting, honestly.
Then I found a bunch of websites.
Once I got a good feel for things, I started to manually keep track. Yeah, I know, sounds old-school. I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down the teams, wins, losses, and ties. I did this after each game I watched or heard about.
- Team Name
- Wins
- Losses
- Ties
After a few weeks of doing this by hand, I figured there had to be a better way. I mean, we live in the digital age, right? So, I moved everything over to a spreadsheet. Much cleaner, much easier to update.
I set up columns for everything: team, wins, losses, ties, points – the whole nine yards. Then, after each game, I just pop in the new numbers. The spreadsheet does all the calculations for me, keeping the standings perfectly updated.
It’s not super fancy, and it sure as heck isn’t automated, but it works! I’ve got my own little NESCAC hockey standings tracker, and I can easily see where everyone stands. It’s been a surprisingly satisfying little project.
